TINNITUS RELIEF
Tinnitus takes many forms: ringing in the ear, whistling, buzzing, hissing, clicking, and static. Each of these ear noises can be either intermittent or permanent and vary in the degree of intensity. Extreme care should be exercised when considering any of the pills and gadgets currently on the market, as no one treatment will be suitable for all. For any individual to find those which would be most beneficial for their particular symptoms could prove very expensive as the inevitable process of elimination kicks in and the result could be a matter of pot luck.
Anyone considering going down this route in search of an effective treatment would be well advised to seek a recommended solution. One recommended by someone or a group of people who have been suffering from similar symptoms. Such recommendations can readily be sourced from one of the many ‘tinnitus self groups’. Most of these have a large membership made up of people with considerable experience at dealing with a wide variety of tinnitus problems. Many will have conducted their own experiments at considerable cost to themselves but are willing to pass the benefit of their experience to others. They are all people who know and understand how terrible it can be to be left alone to deal with such a problem, which is beyond the scope of even the most experienced doctors and consultants. You should however visit your doctor if you have not already done so in case there is an underlying cause, which could be treated.
If there is not a tinnitus self-help group in your area it would be well worth a one off journey to visit the nearest group. You will be made welcome and the real tinnitus experts – those with tinnitus and who have learned how to live happily with it will freely give you the benefit of their experience and much other practicable help and advice.
The addresses and telephone numbers of ‘tinnitus self-help groups’ are listed on the Internet and the Tinnitus Association website. If you feel so inclined and there is not already a group in your area the Tinnitus Association will assist you to set one up.
There are a number of steps you can take immediately to help yourself. If you are a smoker, stop. As an ex smoker myself I know that cigarettes can be a great source of comfort in times of stress but, as stressful as tinnitus is, smoking will make the condition worse. There never seems to be a good time to give up smoking but if you have tinnitus there will never ever be a better time. Fortunately much help is available these days and your doctor can prescribe an effective treatment.
The single most important thing that you can do is stop worrying. It is really important for you to understand that tinnitus is not life threatening or dangerous. It cannot do you any harm unless you allow it to. Put in perspective, it is nothing more than a noise. It will only have a detrimental effect on your life and life style if you allow it to. If you make a conscious effort to get on with your life as if you no longer have tinnitus the effect will soon become quite dramatic. If you stop talking about it and allow those closest to you to think that you are cured the positive result will be even quicker. The less you allow yourself to dwell on the noise the quicker you will become less aware of it. Do not let it frighten you or worry you and above all do not let it prevent you from enjoying other peoples company and from doing the things you most enjoy.
If your hearing is not as good as it used to be ask your doctor to refer you for a hearing test. If required, a hearing aid can provide a positive improvement.
Your general health is also an important consideration. It is wise whenever you can to avoid taking high levels of sugar, salt, saturated fats. Ready meals marketed by leading manufacturers may be convenient but they make it difficult for you to control your intake of such ingredients. Plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables and good quality protein found in fresh meat and fish are most important.
Niacin, which is a form of vitamin B3 improves the flow of blood and improves the flow of oxygen and nutrients to the vital parts of your ear. Ginger and garlic are also excellent aids to increasing blood circulation.
Caffeine free tea and coffee soon become effective in helping to lower the volume of all types of ear noise.
Do all of the above suggestions work effectively?
Yes.
How do I know?
I have had the most severe tinnitus for over twenty years. Although the noise is there all of the time I am seldom aware of it. It is no longer on my conscious mind. It has become rather like blinking. I blink thousands of times every day and I am never aware of it. Neither were you until I mentioned it. If you concentrate on blinking for a few minutes you will discover that it is incredibly annoying. Fortunately our brain/ subconscious mind knows that we do not need to be aware if it so they blank it out of our conscious mind. If nothing else this must prove to you that your brain is capable of taking care of something as simple as a noise in your ear – if you allow it to.
Forget the noise. Get on with enjoying your life. Fill your conscious mind with pleasant things. This will in due course allow your subconscious mind to place the noise in a folder with your blinking. Just for now try or pretend to like the noise. It means you no harm. Allow it to come with you wherever you go. When you go to bed allow yourself to fall asleep with the noise. Treat it like a friend. If you do as I ask it will go away- for short periods at first, and eventually for good or until you ever call it back to your conscious mind – as I have done while I write this for you.
I do hope that I have been able to help you. I am now about to help myself and sign off to allow my subconscious mind to put my noise back in the blinking folder !!!
